Description
The Unitree R1 Basic is the ready-to-use edition of Unitree's R1, the edition Unitree sells simply as "R1": a lightweight bipedal humanoid about 1.23 m tall and 29 kg with its battery, with 26 joint motors (6 in each leg, 5 in each arm, 2 in the waist and 2 in the head), a binocular depth camera and voice and image interaction.
You run it from the Unitree Explore app on iOS or Android, the supplied remote and your voice. The remote holds running mode at low or high speed, dance modes such as Kung Fu and Jeet Kune Do and gestures such as handshake, wave and clap; the voice assistant wakes to "Hello Robot" and, online, answers through a large multimodal model. It stands up from lying flat or starts on the supplied stand, and receives smart OTA upgrades.
The R1 Basic has no secondary development: no SDK access, no computing backpack and no dexterous-hand option, and its hands are fixed. It suits shows, demonstrations and voice and image interaction where the robot is used as it comes. Unitree specifies 0–40 °C on flat ground; the R1 is neither waterproof nor dustproof.
To program the R1, choose an R1 EDU on the same body: the R1 EDU Standard (U1) and R1 EDU Smart (U2) add unitree_sdk2, ROS 2 and an NVIDIA Jetson Orin backpack (40 or 100 TOPS), and Pro A, Pro B, Pro C and Pro D add two dexterous hands. The R1 Basic carries an 8-month manufacturer warranty, every R1 EDU 12 months.

They share the body, camera, computing, audio and battery. The R1 EDU adds secondary development (unitree_sdk2, DDS, ROS 2), a computing backpack with an NVIDIA Jetson Orin module, a dexterous-hand expansion module and a 12-month warranty. The R1 EDU Standard (U1) and R1 EDU Smart (U2) have 40 or 100 TOPS and no hands; Pro A and Pro B add two Unitree Dex3-1 hands, Pro C and Pro D two BrainCo Revo 2 hands. The R1 Basic has fixed hands and an 8-month warranty.
No. Unitree supports secondary development only on the R1 EDU, so the R1 Basic has no SDK access and no computing backpack. It runs from the Unitree Explore app, the remote and voice, with its built-in running, dance and gesture modes, and receives smart OTA upgrades. For your own software, choose an R1 EDU such as the R1 EDU Standard (U1).
Unitree's R1 unboxing film shows the robot in a hard transport case, a quick-release R1 smart battery, the charger and charging cable, a remote control with emergency stop, a stand set (base, support rod, bracket, quick-release clamp, wave washer and protective foam), a calibration steel shaft, body stickers and the user manual. Unitree publishes no written packing list per edition, so we confirm the full list for your configuration with your quotation.
About 1 hour per 6000 mAh quick-release smart battery, less with fast walking, vigorous posture changes, a load or uneven ground. The battery charges outside the robot in about 1.5 hours on the supplied charger (38 V, 3 A, 114 W); only Unitree's charger may charge it.
Unitree specifies 0–40 °C in good weather on flat ground. The R1 is neither waterproof nor dustproof; keep it at least 2 m from obstacles and crowds and operate it with care. It is not a toy and not intended for persons under 18.
The R1 Basic carries Unitree's 8-month manufacturer warranty; every R1 EDU carries 12 months. It is sourced new through established distribution channels and ships worldwide, and technical support is coordinated with the manufacturer's service network. Unitree publishes the R1 user manual, the battery-and-charger and remote-control manuals and tutorial films from unboxing onwards.
